A group of Nairobi Members of County Assembly affiliated to the United Democratic Alliance have thrown their weight solidly behind Governor Johnson Sakaja as the sharp differences among the Ward Reps continues to play out in public. And with Mr Sakaja at the heart of this bitter fallout, the group of nine MCAs on Wednesday, while addressing the media, said they will defend the county boss to the end. Led by Kahawa West MCA Dr Clement Kamaru, the Ward Reps rallied behind Sakaja whom they defended against claims of funding Azimio la Umoja - One Kenya Coalition political rallies in Nairobi. “Sakaja is our governor and should not be intimidated by anyone. He should know that he has soldiers who are fighting for him," Dr Kamaru said. Also read: UDA Nairobi MCAs fight for Minority Leader’s office Kayole Central MCA, Jeremiah Themendu, said they will not allow any of their colleagues to undermine the governor. “He (Sakaja) was elected as the governor of Nairobi on a UDA party ticket. He has our full support,” Themendu said. The sentiments were echoed by Ruai MCA James Kariuki who said Sakaja should be given space and time to fulfill his promises to the people of Nairobi, adding that those trying to pressure the governor should know that development does not happen in a single day. “People should be kind enough and give Sakaja space to do his work. All he needs is support from both sides,” Mr Kariuki said. Also read: Korogocho MCA freed after court throws out hate speech charges At the same time, the MCAs have called for disciplinary action against the Minority Leader Anthony Kiragu and Minority Whip Mark Mugambi. The MCAs blamed Kiragu and Mugambi for peddling lies to the effect that the governor recently funded Azimio la Umoja's political rally at Kamukunji grounds. The MCAs further said Mr Kiragu failed to furnish them with evidence that the governor indeed funded and organized the said rally. “We are calling upon the UDA disciplinary committee to take action against the two Hon members to mitigate the future occurrence of such grave and false allegations towards his Excellency the Governor of Nairobi, hounourable Johnson Sakaja which in our view relate to witchhunt and character assassination,” the MCAs’ letter reads in part.
