Through our discussion, I helped her recognize the possibility of conditions like fibroids or endometriosis and encouraged her to seek medical attention. More Than a Mother: Rashidat Olere on Healing from Postpartum Depression
Motherhood is often painted as a blissful journey filled with joy and bonding. But for many women, the reality is far more complex — and far less talked about. Rashidat Olere, Operations and Sales Manager at BellaNaija, knows this firsthand. After welcoming her children, she found herself battling an unexpected and overwhelming darkness: postpartum depression. In this candid conversation, she opens up about navigating the emotional toll, the trauma that shaped her experience, and the support that helped her find her way back to herself.  What are the common symptoms of postpartum depression, and how do they differ from typical “baby blues”? Many mothers describe it as a vacuum—an emotional numbness that they can’t quite explain. In my case, I lost confidence in myself and felt suicidal after the birth of both of my kids. There was a strong urge to self-harm, and I struggled with overwhelming sadness for a long time. Unlike baby blues, which resolve on their own, postpartum depression lingers, making it difficult to function and enjoy life. Postpartum depression is more intense and lasts longer than baby blues. While baby blues bring temporary mood swings and mild sadness, postpartum depression creates a lingering sense of emptiness, […] The post More Than a Mother: Rashidat Olere on Healing from Postpartum Depression appeared first on BN Style.

The air is electric with vintage vibes, the outfits are screaming elegance, and every babe around you looks like she just stepped out of an iconic fashion era. But hold up, what exactly is Retro Glam, and how do we make it pop our way? Retro Glam isn’t just about throwing on something “old-school” it’s about choosing an era, embracing its best fashion moments, and adding that Naija sauce. OR, and hear me out, we mix it all up and create a fusion that’s as bold and beautiful as us. Now, because we’re Nigerian (and extra in the best way possible), we’re taking it a step further. Think aso-oke corsets, y2k aesthetic, cat-eye sunglasses. Beaded gloves with gele that would make any retro queen jealous. We’re making Retro Glam ours,  to help you slay it effortlessly. Ready? Redefining Luxury: How Rafiat Clothing is Elevating African Fashion to Global Prestige
Luxury fashion has always been a symbol of prestige, exclusivity, and meticulous craftsmanship. From the grand couture houses of Paris to the intricate, handwoven textiles of Africa, the concept of luxury is evolving. Today, luxury is no longer just about the price tag or brand name—it is about innovation, cultural depth, and the artistry behind every stitch.  In this new era, designers are redefining luxury by blending traditional craftsmanship with modern silhouettes, proving that heritage fabrics and artisanal techniques can stand alongside the finest materials in the world. Here Is How Gbemi Okunola Built Alonuko Bridals Into a Multi-Million Pound Brand
At just 18 years old, Gbemi Okunola spent over 100 hours teaching herself how to sew. What started as a passion project soon turned into a business when she officially launched Alonuko Bridals in 2015. With £15,000 she had saved from sewing custom pieces for clients, Gbemi took the leap into fashion entrepreneurship. She later crowdfunded an additional £15,000, bringing her startup capital to £30,000. The journey started small but steady. Gbemi had always been inspired by her mother, who made dresses at home, and she followed in her footsteps. As a teenager, she repurposed thrifted fabrics to design dresses for herself, later turning that skill into a business when a friend introduced her to her first paying customer. From there, she took deposits to buy materials and began making custom dresses. The real turning point came when her sister got married, and Gbemi made her first-ever wedding dress. That experience solidified her passion for bridal fashion and marked the beginning of what would become a globally recognised brand. Starting wasn’t without its challenges, but Gbemi had an advantage: a bit of a following from her appearance on The Young Apprentice. That exposure helped her attract an audience to […] The post Here Is How Gbemi Okunola Built Alonuko Bridals Into a Multi-Million Pound Brand appeared first on BN Style.

Draped in a tailored pastel pink blazer dress, our Bella Stylista blends power dressing with ultra-feminine charm. The structured lapels and delicate crystal embellishments on the sleeves takes the look to an entirely new level of chic. Her makeup is soft, complementing her outfit without overpowering it. With a dreamy setting decked out in pink florals and luxe details, this entire aesthetic screams ‘high tea with a side of haute couture’. We love a well-thought-out theme, and Chioma Akpotha is serving.   View this post on Instagram   A post shared by BellaNaija Style (@bellanaijastyle) Would you rock this look? Meet the Four African Designers Named Semi-Finalists for the 2025 LVMH Prize
In exciting news for African fashion, David Boye–Doe, Tolu Coker, Torishéju Dumi, and Yasmin Mansour have been named among the 20 semi-finalists for the 12th edition of the prestigious LVMH Prize for Young Designers, highlighting the growing recognition of African talent in global fashion. This isn’t the first time African designers have caught the eye of the LVMH Prize. In 2019, South Africa’s Thebe Magugu became the first African designer to take home the grand prize. Priya Ahluwalia, a British Indian Nigerian designer, was a finalist in 2020, and Lukhanyo Mdingi from Cape Town won the Special Prize in 2021. The LVMH Prize is a major platform for young designers, offering €400,000 to the winner along with a year of mentorship in key areas like sustainable practices, marketing, and brand management. There are also two other awards—the Karl Lagerfeld Prize and the Savoir-Faire Prize, each with €200,000 and a year of mentorship. The 20 semi-finalists will showcase their collections during Paris Fashion Week on March 5th and 6th. With the competition becoming more competitive, we’re particularly thrilled about these four African designers who have made it this far. Last night in Newcastle, Ayra Starr made history as the first woman in 16 years to win Best African Music Act. She didn’t stop there; she also took home the Best International Music Act Award, all while serving undeniable style. For the event, Ayra Starr blended bold fashion and edgy artistry, proving she’s a trendsetter both in music and style. She wore a peach sequin gown and monochrome fur drape. And for beauty, she kept her pixie cut and a perfect glam. Two major awards. One unforgettable look. And a moment for the history books.
